You love to learn, I love to teach!
I’ve been teaching workshops for more than 25 years, sharing my passion for improv with students around the world. My sessions combine expertise and playful, supportive energy to result in classes that are as entertaining as they are powerful. Whatever topic you choose, you get master classes your casts and students will use every day, on and off stage.

Reinventing ShortForm
Length of workshop: 3 hours
Maximum number of students: 14
Every decent improviser knows shortform, right? Not so fast. If you think shortform is easy, hack, or gimmicky, you’re not doing it right. Discover the art of shortform (yes, the art). Learn how to connect with an audience, attack the stage, and find the scene within the game. Geek out on structures, comedic angles, and ever-elusive hosting techniques. Gain valuable scenic, collaborative, character, audience interaction, and fast-play skills that you can apply to any other style of improv. One thing’s for sure: after this workshop, you will never look at shortform the same way.
Prerequisite: for intermediate and advanced improvisers with at least basic shortform experience

Beyond Structure
Length of workshop: 3 hours
Maximum number of students: 14
Explore our signature approach to improvisation. Follow the Fun to discover how every moment, beat, line, and movement in a show can be deconstructed, leading you to the next scene. Find form where there was no form. We’ll explore the tools that enable performers to create a unique improvised running order with every show. In this “everything is on the table” style, Harold beats, shortform lay-ons, narrative edits, game moves, audience interaction, heightened physicality, genre play, callbacks and pretty much everything else you can imagine, converge to answer 3 fundamental questions: 1) What does the show want? 2) What’s come before? 3) What’s fun? Let’s learn to move beyond chasing the laugh and learn to discover the joy in every moment of our show. Join us and discover the exhilaration of laying down tracks in front of a moving train.
Prerequisite: intermediate and advanced improvisers with longform experience

Teaching The Teachers
Length of workshop: 4 hours
Maximum number of students: 10
Looking to grow your community and your revenue through classes? I can help you turn gifted improvisers into gifted teachers. Through interactive, on-your-feet exercises we cover our approach to experiential learning. Learn how to side coach effectively, meet your students where they are, and find your voice as a teacher. We will cover how to establish a classroom culture of support and risk-taking, how to handle students who don’t want to play by the rules, and how to ensure everyone feels successful while also being pushed to do their best work.
This class requires a space large enough to have all attendees move around comfortably, along with chairs (ideally with tables) for everyone so they can take notes. Attendees are encouraged to bring notebooks or laptops. Handouts will be distributed at the end of the session.
